Claiming CME Credit
Many Academy courses award AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. You claim it by submitting the course Evaluation. There is no separate form and nothing to fill in about hours. This guide covers which courses carry credit, what happens when you claim, and how to download your certificate.
Which Courses Award CME
In the Academy, a course that awards credit has a chip on its card showing the amount, such as 1 CME Credit. The chip also tells you when a course no longer awards credit to you:
- CME already claimed — the credit for this activity is already on your record.
- CME credit expired — the course's credit period has ended. You can still take the course.
The course start screen, under Before you begin, shows the Number of Credits, the Release date, and the Expiration date. The expiration date is the last day you can claim credit.
Claiming Your Credit
- Work through the course. When you reach the end of the lessons, the next button reads Claim CME. It takes you to the Evaluation.
- Answer every question in the Evaluation. All of them are required.
- Click Submit answers. This completes the course and claims its full credit.
The Credit Claimed Page
After you submit, you go to Your CME credit has been claimed. It shows:
- How much credit you claimed, for which course, and when.
- A CME certificate box with a Download certificate button. If the certificate is still being prepared, the download may take a few extra seconds.
- Whether the credit is on your CE transcript yet, and a Go to CE transcript button.
When No Credit Is Added
- You have already claimed it. Each course can be claimed once. If the same activity's credit is already on your record, for example from the earlier Academy, you'll see a message after submitting saying that no additional credit was added.
- The credit period has ended. After the expiration date, the Evaluation is closed and the course shows This activity's credit period has ended. The rest of the course is still yours to read.
- The course doesn't offer credit. Courses without a CME chip don't award credit. Submitting their evaluation completes the course, and nothing is added to your transcript.
Downloading Your Certificate Later
Your certificate is a PDF, and you can download it again at any time:
- From your CE Transcript, using the Download button in the Certificate column.
- From the course itself, using the Download CME certificate link shown once you have earned the credit.
